Nothings can be more clear than the Roman staple of the aqueduct and how it affects today's world. Most significantly, via sewage and drainage systems.
Having evolved from large and cumbersome, lead-lined channels of water, most drainage systems survive on PVC piping, duct tape, and plumbers with too-low pants.

That plumbing section has evolved from stone slabs, to something compact. To be sure, the Romans did have there own plumbing, but nothing to this extent. His and her sinks, private sauna rooms in the shower, in-ground bath tubs, and this shower:
These modern innovations could not have been possible if they hadn't stemmed from the Roman desire of hygiene. Simple plumbing has turned into an art- slick new designs for shower heads, as seen above, were things that Romans could have only dreamed of. While it may seem simple, the skill and mind to be able to handle the jumble of plumbing is an impressive feat.
Taken for granted, plumbing is a tricky business. people devote their lives to fixing broken or faulty plumbing. People devote their lives to innovating new and better designs for showers. If it wasn't for aqueducts evolving into smaller and smaller plumbing systems, the toilets and bath we enjoy today could not have been possible, leading to spread of germs, viruses, and other very gross stuff.
